Our most advanced course occurs on faster flowing waters, but it is not a whitewater paddling course. Many of the rivers in Interior Alaska require good river running skills and sound judgment, but not advanced whitewater skills. This course will prepare you for them. Emphasis is on understanding the dynamics of moving water, reading the river and performing the strokes and maneuvers you learned in previous classes in swifter current. The course emphasizes safety as a mindset, and you will practice rescues. Though we will not introduce new strokes and maneuvers, you will gain new river running knowledge and confidence. The goal of this course is for you to understand your abilities and limitations and be able to confidently select and navigate appropriate personal river trips.
